In Black Friday weekend sad news,  an alleged shoplifter was killed after he fled an Atlanta area Wal-Mart with two DVD players that he didn’t pay for.

Two Wal-Mart employees and a security guard chased him into the parking lot where a “physical altercation” took place, and apparently, the security guard put the man in a choke hold.  Police arrived soon thereafter to find the three workers on top of the suspected shoplifter who was unresponsive and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“No amount of merchandise is worth someone’s life,” Wal-Mart spokesperson Dianna Gee said Sunday in a statement that emphasized that it was early in the investigation. “Associates are trained to disengage from situations that would put themselves or others at risk.”

The two Wal-mart employee were put on paid leave.  The security officer no longer works for Wal-mart.
