President Obama spoke to families of the Aurora theater shooting victims while on a special trip to Colorado to offer comfort and support. He visited with the families one on one in the local hospital’s intensive care unit.
Obama later appeared from the hospital rooms to speak about the tragedy focusing on lives of the fallen. Watch below.
“I come to them not so much as president as I do as a father and as a husband,” Obama told reporters after his visits. “The reason stories like this have such an impact on us is because we could all understand what it would be to have somebody we love taken from us in this fashion.”
“I confessed to them that words are always inadequate,” Mr. Obama said, following the meeting, but added that his “main task was to serve as a representative of the entire country and we think of them at this moment and we will continue to think of them each and every day.”
