According to the CDC, a deadly outbreak of E.coli with the same DNA fingerprint have been identified in six states. Fourteen people have been ill and one dead from coming in contact with the deadly strain. Cases have been reported in Alabama (2), California (1), Florida (1), Georgia (5), Louisiana (4) and Tennessee (1), according to the CDC.
- Severe stomach cramps and stomach tenderness.
- Diarrhea, watery at first, but often becoming very bloody.
- Nausea and vomiting.
What can you do to protect yourself from E.coli?
Wash your hands frequently after preparing food.
Wash your hands after using the restroom
Do not touch door handles after using a public restroom
Cook meats thoroughly to at least 160°F or 70?C
Be aware of recalls of meat, poultry, fruits and vegetables
