Two teenage boys – ages 13 and 14 – were among four people killed, and at least 30 others were wounded in shootings in Chicago over the weekend, according to CBS Chicago.  The latest killings add up to 228 people killed in Chicago in 2012.  In comparison, 114 Americans have died in the Afghanistan war since the new year.

Police blame much of the violence on the city’s more than 70 active gangs and their tens of thousands of members.

Although 228 murders is high, Chicago officials say that the media is blowing things out of proportion as the murder rate has been dropping over the years.  Police superintendent Garry McCarthy said Chicago is facing a “perception issue.”

At any rate, something has to be done.
