Rodney King sat down with Dr Drew of CNN to remember the LA Riots.

This week is the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles  Riots which were sparked by the verdicts is a police brutality case associated with the beating of motorist Rodney King.

Rodney King was stopped for speeding March 1991.   After King was taken out of his vehicle, police officers commenced to beating him to a pulp.  The beating was captured on video tape which was later seen by the world day after day.  Fourteen months later, a jury with no black members had acquitted four police officers in the videotaped beating.  This sparked the LA riots which was the deadliest, most destructive race riots in the nation’s history.

Are race relations better now since this tragic event?  It depends on who you ask.  For many, no.  We still have questionable verdicts when it’s obvious that a crime has taken place.  Racial profiling is about the same as many African-Americans continue to be stopped by the police for driving while black—some with deadly consequences.

Rodney King uttered the most profound words during a ‘press conference’ in the midst of the riots, ‘Can we all just get along?’.
