Don Cornelius, Soul Train legend dead at 75.

 

Don Cornelius, the founder of the “Soul Train” television show, has been found dead in Los Angeles, Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday. He was 75.

He died of a gunshot wound at a house on Mulholland Drive, said Los Angeles police Officer Tenesha Dodine. Police responded to the call about 4 a.m. (7 a.m. ET), Dodine said. CNN

Cornelius launched “Soul Train” in Chicago in 1970 and it quickly became a seminal part of black culture, featuring the hottest music, fashion and dancing. Cornelius hosted the show until 1993 and in addition to his mellifluous voice and of-the-moment style, he became known for his signature sign-off: “I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soooooouuuuullllllll.” Washington Post
